Hello, everybody,
I am into scale models for over 45 years. I fell in love with the 1/48 scale. I went thru 2 big collections I sold years ago. Now I want to start a new serie, but not into the commercial or ever rare kits, but create a line of big planes, that I would offer "ready made". I am thinking of resin models, or even die-cast. And I got some bizar planes and craft in mind, from which I already built some. I would like to get some reactions about the possible interest for such models. Just a grasp of ideas on 1/48 scale : Concorde, Airbus 380, XB-19 bomber (prototype), B-52, Flying Wing etc. Get the picture of the family? I also have those spacecraft models in mind, nobody ever built. Mostly the complete missiles (Saturn V, russian N3,) and the unmanned sats.
I look also for design information of the russian akranoplan, called "the monster of the caspian sea".
Would like to get all kinds of reactions, critics, (even if it is demoralising)...

The ready made is a nice idea but shipping costs could be a factor. Unless you are going to be building units that will sell for thousands of dollars.
There are a few sites out there that build custom units of all kinds. Planes, trains, cars etc. They are not cheap.
Find a topic that is specific to your area and then frequent shows, advertise a little. First off, what common modeling would be suited to your area. Big planes might not do good in Daytona with the 500 there, if you get my drift.
In any event, good luck with your venture and keep us in tune.
Cheers
Daniel

I don't know about that polarbear.....I think Daytona is geared more towards cars....than planes. but still, wouldn't the purchase of a ready made model, defeat our craft? but i agree with you to a point...ready made models could become an outlet, only if they were commissioned builds......there are already too many sites that sell these products. I personally, would rather build my own.

Happy about all these reactions...indeed Daytona and planes? However...
Shipping was already on my mind. Parts can be assembled home, like wings, or landing gears. Yet, in the past days I also spoke to some colleges of mine. A french die-cast car builder leaves the options : purchase the kit assembled and paint, or as a real kit.
Indeed, that kind of big projects would be better that way, and leave the customer make his choice.
Most important about my project is produce models we all were dreaming about, but never existed as kit or ready-to-make model.
By the way, congratulations, that klipper looks superb.
