Hi there, I am about to start a railway layout in the near future as I have wanted to for many years and am now retired. I intend to have a European outline in **** gauge but am in two minds over which sytem to use AC or DC. Any observations would be greatfully received. Thank you.

Carn't speak for the rest of europe but most systems out in the UK which is part of europe use 12V DC for normal operation and DCC for computer control 15V AC over here is usually used for accesories and the like. Of course it's not set in stone but this is pretty common in most scales here in the UK.

Here in Canada the DC is used to power the trains and the AC is to power things like switches and lights. The power pack usually has AC and DC connectors. You must be sure to connect them right.

I know nothing about DCC. Sorry.
