I used to own a die cast model of a traction engine. Unfortunately it was stolen some time ago and I was hoping to track down a replacement. I'm afraid I don't have many details but does anyone know of any companies that used to make such models? It was about 3 inches long, painted green and the roof covered or nearly covered the whole model so possibly a showman's engine. As for age, it must be quite old. It was given to me around 30 years ago and it looked well used even then so I'm guessing 1950s but possibly quite a bit earlier.

Not much to go on but I'll know it when I see it so I was hoping there might be catalogues or books out there that show photos.

You may also like to check out South Eastern Finecast who make some superb metal kits of various steam vehicles. Not for the beginner but, I would guess, very challenging and satisfying model-making. Web site at: http://www.sefinecast.co.uk/

Mammod and Willesco are two 'popular' brands.
Mammod is made in the UK, Willesco is German. There's also Steamco, an
Australian brand (hand-made, expensive but worth it) if you can get them.

Yes I think that may have been the one! I see there is also a matchbox horse-drawn fire engine that I used to have as well.

The traction engine is a different colour, don't know if they ever did it in green but quite possibly mine had been repainted.

Thanks for your help (and to everyone else who responded)

This sounds like one of the old British-made Dinky Toys or Corgi ones from the early-mid 1950s or perhaps early 1960s. Check websites for catalogue items on that.
